Spring is just beginning to bloom, and that means one thing; it’s time to dust away the cobwebs with some serious spring cleaning. Getting your home to sparkle needn’t be difficult!

Following suggestions made by followers on our Facebook page we have compiled 5 essential cleaning tips that will make washing away the dust and dirt of last year a breeze.

 1. Get Rid Of Pet Hair With Scouring Gloves

Getting pet hair out of carpets and couches can be tricky. Unless you have a rug doctor, and even if you do, you’ll find that the majority of pet hair just won’t move. According to Julie from Cheshire, with a little elbow grease and a pair of Scouring Gloves, you could get rid of twice as much pet hair as you would with the vacuum alone.

Put some bicarbonate of soda down and sweep your hand across the carpet or furnishings (lightly) in a circle of eight motion to dislodge as much hair as possible. Once you have done this vacuum and repeat as many times as you feel necessary.

2. Work From Room To Room

Some people section their spring cleaning into tasks; they will do all of the dusting, all of the floors, all of the furnishings, etc, in one go. This is more time consuming and less efficient than working from room to room.

Samantha from Dorset suggests taking a cleaning caddy filled with everything you need from room to room with you and close each room off before you move to the next, leaving hallways and high traffic areas until last.

3. Remove Grease And Smoke Stains With Ease

Kitchens can be far dirtier than they appear to be at first glance; grease and smoke can build up on doors and skirting boards without anyone really noticing (especially if they are dark wood).

Katie from Brighton says a watered down mixture of thick bleach (use gloves and protect clothing) and lemon juice could work wonders. If you really want to get rid of layers of built up grime put some bicarbonate of soda on a halved lemon and rub in small circles, adding bicarb and wetting as necessary, before wiping the surface down with the bleach mixture, and finally a surface cleanser.

4. Get Rid Of Ring Marks

Rebecca from Birmingham says that if you have cup rings or marks on your wooden furniture you can minimise them by rubbing in some gentle cleaning toothpaste and leaving to sink in overnight. In the morning gently wipe the toothpaste away with a non-scratch scourer sponge (don’t press too hard!) and you will find that they are almost invisible.

5. Odours Be Gone!

Wake up to a fresh smelling home with the help of some room and fabric freshener. A quick and easy cleaning hack according to Joanne, from Bristol is to fill your sinks (bathroom and kitchen) with strong smelling cleaning products, such as a room and fabric freshener, and boiling water.

Leave all of your doors open and let the water sit over night to eliminate odour and make your home smell great!

Nothing quite beats the fresh and satisfying feeling you get whenever you have a little spring clean. Whether you have five minutes or a whole weekend, the top tips, suggested by our Facebook followers will have you covered this season.
